A ten year old’s summary: This kid goes to a store and gets a dime every time he brings in ten paper bags that he gets from his mom. He buys candy when he gets the money for them. On one trip he brought the guy a bag that he had fixed a hole in. He got in trouble with his mom because he had taken the bag that she had said not to bring. So he went to retrieve the bag with the hole and replace it with a better one. I am a father of 8 kids 6 sons, 2 daughters and trying my best to read ahead of them to keep junk out of their heads.

Wish me well. Pros: quick read. Clean book. Teaches "character is critical" with a thoughtful story. Good for boys or girls. Cons: I don't know how exciting it will be for the kids to read I plan to find out. But there isn't any reason to stop someone younger from reading it. Delete Note Save Note. Was suggested in homeschool curriculum I currently use. We read it in one sitting. Maybe 30 minute read. The main character was distracted so easily that we all found it annoying.

It had clean language and taught the principle of honesty. I felt I could have made up a story to teach this and not have spent the money. Jesse Stuart - every story, every poem, every writing is gold. For children just coming of age, 11 to 13, this book offers a glimpse of a simpler world, yet with the same temptations to 'cut corners' or take unfair advantage of another. Plus the depths of conflicting emotions after 'getting away' with what seemed an innocent deception. I loved it as a kid, read it to my children and now to my grandchildren. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. It is a good book for children to learn about being truthful. It is written well and offers much in terms of language lessons for a living education. Report abuse.
